Mardel Chinburg, Senior Litigation Manager
Mardel Chinburg has been a legal assistant in the firm’s litigation department since 1984. She works on complex cases, including product liability, defective medical products and devices, industrial injuries, defective automobiles and restraint systems, trucking and other major vehicle collisions, electrical accidents, utility negligence, and civil rights. She also has been extensively involved in the federal multi-district breast implant cases. She finds and organizes information to establish liability, to identify and prepare experts, and to calculate damages, and works closely with clients throughout the process of resolving claims. Mardel holds a Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor’s Degree in History with a teaching credential from the University of Oregon. She is a past chair of the Lane County chapter of the Oregon League of Conservation Voters and a former board member of the statewide OLCV organization and continues to serve on the Pacific Rivers Council board. Mardel supports a wide variety of local organizations dedicated to art, music, education, youth, and social justice programs.
Jodie Wize, R.N., B.S.N.
Jodie Wize is a registered nurse who joined the firm in 2000. Her background includes working as a staff nurse in the intensive care and medical / surgical fields. She also brings over ten years of home health experience as a field nurse and Director of Professional Services. In our firm, she researches medical literature, reviews medical records, assists with depositions, and consults with experts to establish liability and damages. Ms. Wize received her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Oregon Health Sciences University and received her certification as a registered nurse in 1986.
LEGAL ASSISTANTS / STAFF
Pamela Allen comes to our office with 20 years of legal experience. She has experience with land use law, estate planning, and business law in Astoria, Oregon. In 2000 she began working at a Springfield law firm specializing in worker’s compensation and Social Security disability law. She moved up through the ranks and eventually became a paralegal specializing in workers’ compensation law. Pam is knowledgeable and able to assist injured workers through the complex compensation system. She enjoys working with clients and explaining the worker’s compensation process. Pam works primarily for Keith Semple as part of his litigation support team, and she also helps Michele Smith with multi-district litigation. Pam completed her Associate of Applied Science in the legal assistant program at Trend Business College in 1991.
Kristin Barber has been with the firm since 1998. She began as an office assistant and quickly moved into a legal secretary position. In 2010, she started working directly with Arthur Johnson as his primary assistant. She works on various personal injury and wrongful death claims, and helps with marketing. She also works on multi-district litigation cases involving hip implants, transvaginal mesh, Yaz and Yasmin, Kugel Mesh, and NuvaRing. Ms. Barber completed her Associate of Applied Science degree in the legal secretary program at Lane Community College in 1999.
Kelly Chesla joined the firm in January of 2012. She works as the office bookkeeper. Kelly completed her Bachelors Degree in Economics at the University of California Los Angeles in 1991.
Nancy Hill has been our receptionist since November 2005. She routes all incoming calls to the appropriate person, assists in tracking inquiry calls and e-mails, assists in data entry, and is a friendly face to all who walk through our door.
Pattie Jenkins has been with the firm since October, 2011. She has worked as a legal secretary and later as a legal assistant at various Eugene law firms for over thirty years. PJ works primarily for Jennifer Middleton and Meredith Holley in the employment law and civil rights areas and is part of the litigation support team.
Linda LaBerge has been with the firm since November 2015. She works primarily for Arthur Johnson and is part of the litigation support team. Linda has many years of experience in the legal field and earned her certification as a paralegal in 1989 through the National Association of Legal Assistants.
Amber Love-Bunce has been with the firm since 2006. She started as an office assistant and moved into the position of a legal assistant in 2007. She is now the primary assistant for Scott Lucas and is part of the litigation support team. Amber completed her Associate of Applied Science Degree in the Legal Assistant program at Lane Community College in 2006.
Anna Nibblett has been with the firm since 2009. She is a legal assistant for Derek Johnson and Marilyn Heiken. Her attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile has made her a valued asset to the firm. Anna completed her Associates of Applied Science Degree in the legal assistant program at Lane Community College in 2005.
